about

The third original release in 2022 from QJB. is called ‘Round Robin’ and is a very personal song. Inspired by (but not about) his brother, Graeme, who sadly collapsed and died shortly before the first lockdown.

Observing the Covid rules we decided we couldn’t all attend the funeral nor hold a celebration. With family flung far and wide, from Greece to Africa, to the Iberian, to the Americas as well as various UK locations (including the Scottish Isles!) it was not easy to arrange a time for us all to gather. Covid and ‘real life’ intervened twice more till finally we celebrated his life by launching his ashes onto a small replica Viking boat, into the north sea at Whitby, near where he lived with his wife. 5 generations of family gathered and I played this song amongst many moving tributes and memories. The family gave me their blessing to release this and to use his image on the cover, taken on the last holiday shortly before he died.

The title refers to the ‘Round Robin’ family and friend letters he used to send each year to much hilarity and the good natured derision of the recipients. This year there will be no letter but plenty of love and more than a little wine.

lyrics

Verse 1
This year there's no letter
This year there's no wine
I remember when you told me
There's plenty of time
Now all of a sudden
We have no this year
And next year don’t look much better
It’s just filled with tiers

Chorus
Hold my hand
Things are rough
Take each breath as it comes

Verse 2
We broke all the promise
We ditched all our plans
I remember when you told me
I don’t understand
Now all of a sudden
There is no more time
Hopes and dreams of our life
Turned out to be lies

Chorus 2
Hold on tight
Things will change
Take each breathe that remains

Bridge
Hold me close Dreams unfold
Here in my arms Know that in this warmth we can never be cold

Verse 3 (instrumental)

Chorus 3
Hold my heart
Treat me kind
No love is stronger than mine
Bridge 2
Hold me tight Stories we’ve told
Here in my arms Know that in this warmth we can never be cold

Verse Last (repeat and fade)
This year there's no letter
This year there's no wine
No round robin
No round robin
This year there's no letter
This year there's no letter
No round robin
No round robin
